# example-petstore.com の経緯

example-petstore.com が初めて登場したのは 2009年3月、Google の従来のアナリティクスのドキュメントでした。その後 15 年にわたり、3 世代の Google のドキュメントに受け継がれ、数えきれないほどコピーされました。以下の日付はすべて、アーカイブされた出典に基づいています。

## 2009年より前

初期の Google アナリティクスのドキュメントでは、別の名前が使われていました。サードパーティのショッピング カートに関する ヘルプ記事では、少なくとも 2007年から2010年まで `www.mystore.com` と `www.securecart.com` が使われており、 2009年3月1日までにアーカイブされた従来のアナリティクスの以前のガイド「Domains & Directories」のどのバージョンにも、 ペットショップは登場しません。

## 従来のアナリティクス（2009～2024年）

1. **2009年3月** — Google が従来のアナリティクス（`ga.js`）のドキュメントを再編成し、新しい `tracking/` セクションを設けます。2009年3月27日に初めてアーカイブされた、書き直されたガイド「Tracking Multiple Domains」で、サブドメイン dogs. と cats. を持つ www.example-petstore.com、`www.example-commerce-host.com/petStoreCart` のカート、`_setDomainName(".example-petstore.com")` や `_linkByPost('www.example-commerce-host.com/petStoreCart/begin.php')` などのコードが登場します。ペットショップへの言及は 18 回あります。
2. **2011年** — サードパーティのショッピング カートに関するヘルプ記事が、同じ組み合わせ（`www.example-petstore.com` と `www.example-commerce-host.com/petStoreCart`）に切り替わります。
3. **2013～2014年** — developers.google.com に掲載された非同期版のガイドで、`_gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'example-petstore.com'])` と、`http://dogs.example-petstore.com/intro.html` への「See my pet store」リンクが示されます。
4. **2024年7月1日** — 従来のアナリティクスとユニバーサル アナリティクスのドキュメントが、ユニバーサル アナリティクスとともに廃止されます。

## SEO のドキュメント（2014～2019年）

1. **2014年9月** — サイトリンク検索ボックスの最初のドキュメントで、`"url": "https://www.example-petstore.com/"` と target `host.example-petstore.com/search?q={search_term}` が使われます。
2. **2014年9月～2015年半ば** — 最もよく知られたバージョンで `query.example-petstore.com/search?q={search_term_string}` が使われ、テキストの例として `www.example-petstore.com/search?q=collars` と `…?q=leashes` も示されます。
3. **2016年** — Google の構造化データのドキュメントが `example.com` に切り替わります。
4. **2015年4月～少なくとも2019年1月** — Search Console のアドレス変更ツールのヘルプで、`http://fish.example-petstore.com` から `http://example.com` または `http://example-petstore.com` への移転が例として使われます。後継のページでは `example.com` のみが使われています。

## 現行のドキュメント

Google タグに関する Google の現行のガイド「Measure activity across multiple domains」は、今も example-petstore.com の ウェブサイトと、example-commerce-host.com/example-petstore で運営されるショップの説明から始まります。この文は、2021年3月の時点で 前身のページにすでに掲載されていました。コードサンプルでは `example.com` が使われ、ドメイン名はこのページのどの翻訳でも 変更されていません。

## コピーと翻訳

- **2009年7月** — Google グループのスレッドで `petStoreCart/legalTerms.php` のスニペットが引用されます。確認できた中で最も古い第三者によるコピーです。
- **2009～2010年** — 中国語とフランス語のアナリティクス関連ブログが、dogs./cats.example-petstore.com と example-commerce-host.com/petStoreCart を翻訳せずにそのまま使用します。
- **2013年4月** — WooCommerce の機能リクエストに、`_gaq.push(['_setDomainName', 'example-petstore.com']);` がそのまま貼り付けられます。
- **2014～2019年** — SEO ブログ（2015年の Semrush や LCN など）、フォーラム、少なくとも 5 件の Stack Overflow の質問で、`query.example-petstore.com` を含む検索ボックスのマークアップがコピーされます。
- **2019年** — ドイツの試験対策教材で、ショップが `www.example-zoohandlung.de` に翻訳されますが、`www.example-commerce-host.com/example-zoohandlung/` はそのまま残されます。

これらのドメインをデフォルト設定として含むソフトウェア製品は見つかっていません。コピーはすべて、貼り付けられたスニペットに由来します。

## 終了

1. **2023年7月1日** — ユニバーサル アナリティクスがデータの処理を停止します。従来のアナリティクスのコードも効果がなくなります。
2. **2024年7月1日** — ユニバーサル アナリティクスの提供が終了し、そのドキュメントも廃止されます。
3. **2024年11月21日** — Google がサイトリンク検索ボックスの表示を終了します。
